The year was 2004, the place New York City. A lone man walked quickly dodging in and out of sidewalk traffic. He made his way to 7th Ave, and the place "they" had agreed on. With a flick his cell phone sprung open. "11:00AM" it read,  just on time. Just as he put the cell phone away and looked up, two men appeared at the top of a nearby escalator. One was tall with a digital cam hanging around his neck. The other, shorter man carried a black 35mm camera pack. Both their eyes fell to the same place and a nod was exchanged between the three strangers. At once they began walking towards the street exit. It was dangerous, yet still they marched off to save the world, and begin....

The three men described above were veteran candid photographers Rootdog and Rawflame, along with Vertical...a candid newbie and primary energy source for the project. They wandered around Manhattan for the better part of a day snapping candid photos wherever they could find smoking women. They covered the lower half of the island from Battery Park to Central Park, with several stops in between, including Bryant Park and Times Square. The results can be found in the thumbnail gallery below. Who knows? There may be a volume two in the works.
